In 2021, I self-published my first writing piece, My Self-Healing Journal. Since childhood, I always wrote in journals and had pen pals. I understood the importance of our thoughts and feelings being expressed in a linear form. I incorporated this technique when helping my clients. It was a transformative healing process.
Freedom House is a domestic violence shelter for singles and families with or without disabilities. It is part of Barrier Free Living which supports survivors of domestic violence by providing refuge, advocacy, counseling, housing and other support services. Fifteen years ago, I was fortunate enough to be employed as a Case Manager and Social Work Intern at Freedom House. They provided me with the opportunity to help a community that is dear to my heart. I met great peers that turned into friends and validated my desire to further my career in social work.
You may wonder what the connection between my journal, which has been added to the Library of Congress and Freedom House is. Well, proceeds from each sale goes directly to Freedom House. Proceeds go directly to the clients and not administration or any other expenses.
